Your blurred background will appear here

Upload a supported photo, isolate the subject, then slide intensity. The subject stays in the original pixels.

Keep the right pixels

Hair, Fur, and Product Edges Stay in the Original Photo

This is not a new illustration of the subject. Isolation builds a matte. The slider then blurs original background pixels and leaves the subject core from the file you uploaded.

Portraits with hair and glasses

Flyaway hair, glasses, and shoulders stay in the original RGB. Feather can soften the matte edge, but it does not redraw the face.

Pets with fur against busy rooms

Fur edges are hard for a cutout. Inspect the preview on whiskers and ears before you download. Isolation can miss a thin strand; the slider will not invent it.

Products with handles, gaps, and labels

Handles, straps, and label type should remain the uploaded pixels. If the matte eats a gap, replace the photo rather than pushing intensity harder.

Practical workflow

How to Blur Photo Background Online

The workbench is the product. Upload one supported photo, isolate the subject, inspect the local preview, and download only when the edge still agrees with the source.

  1. 01

    Upload one photo

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file up to 5 MB, with each side from 256 to 4,096 pixels and no more than 16 megapixels.

  2. 02

    Isolate the subject

Sign in and run isolation for 3 credits. The request sends only the image URL and an account-bound upload proof. Intensity and feather are not accepted on that request.

  3. 03

    Tune blur on your device

Intensity defaults to 50. Feather defaults to 8 px and tops out at 64 px. Moving either slider recomposites the original pixels locally. It does not start another charge.

  4. 04

    Download the matching PNG

Preview and download come from the same local composite. Isolation is 3 credits. Preview and download are 0 credits.

Inspect the edge

Judge Hair, Fur, and Product Gaps Against the Original

These illustrative, AI-generated examples show the intended treatment; they are not measured outputs or a performance benchmark. Inspect hair, fur, handles, and labels on your own file before you keep a download.

Portrait with hair against a busy room

A head-and-shoulders portrait. Check the hairline, glasses, and shoulders against the original. The face should remain the uploaded pixels, not a regenerated likeness.

Pet with fur against household clutter

A pet sitting in a room. Check whiskers, ears, and the outline of the coat. Fur that the matte misses will blur with the room; the slider cannot restore it.

Product photograph after a locally blurred background with the original label kept sharp
Blurred background

Product with a handle and a label gap

A product with a handle or strap and readable packaging type. The gap inside a handle should stay a hole, not a smeared subject, and the label should remain the original print.

What This Tool Will Not Do

This page blurs the background of an existing photograph. It does not delete the background into transparency. It does not replace the scene with a new location. It does not regenerate the subject, invent bokeh discs, or claim an optical lens simulation.

If you need a transparent PNG, use Background Remover. If you need a new scene behind the same subject, use AI Background Changer. This tool is the middle job: keep the original pixels in the subject, and soften only the surroundings.

Privacy, Storage, and Deletion

Isolation uploads one purpose-bound copy after you sign in. Intensity, feather, preview, and download stay in the browser. Signed-in isolation tasks can appear in My Creations so a paid task can be recovered after a temporary connection problem.

The current storage backend has no automatic expiry for uploaded or generated image objects. Delete in My Creations calls the authenticated creation-delete endpoint and soft-deletes the task record from account history; it does not delete the underlying image object or provider copy. Review the Privacy Policy before uploading especially sensitive portraits.

Choose the right workflow

Banana Pro AI vs Canva vs Photoshop

The useful choice depends on whether you already have a photo, whether you want a local intensity slider after one isolation, and whether you are working in a browser or a desktop document.

Banana Pro AI Blur Photo Background

Best for
An existing photo that should keep original subject pixels while the background is softened in the browser
Control
One isolation, then local intensity and feather on the original RGB
Tradeoff
Isolation can miss hair, fur, or a product gap. The blur is a software mix, not a camera lens.

Canva

Best for
A design canvas where background blur is one step inside a larger layout, template, or social post
Control
Browser editors and Magic Studio style tools aimed at a finished graphic, not a dedicated isolation-then-slider path
Tradeoff
The subject may be restyled inside a broader design tool. This page does not send you to Canva.

Photoshop

Best for
A desktop document where you want Field Blur, Iris Blur, or a handmade mask with layer-level control
Control
Blur Gallery and manual selections on a licensed desktop editor
Tradeoff
More control, and more setup. A wide-aperture look still depends on the mask you draw, not a one-click isolate.

Tool specifications

A Focused Isolate-Then-Slider Path

The workbench accepts one JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 5 MB. Each side must be between 256 and 4,096 pixels, and the image must stay within 16 megapixels. Subject isolation costs 3 credits. Local preview and PNG download cost 0 credits. Preview longest edge is 1,280 pixels.

The result is a software background blur of your existing photo, not a camera lens, a transparent cutout, or a new generated scene. By using the tool, you confirm that your upload complies with the Terms of Service.

Optical background blur in camera comes from aperture, focal length, and the distance between subject and background. This page approximates a shallow-focus look by isolating the subject, then mixing a blurred copy of the original photograph. Reviewed by the Banana Pro AI product team · Last reviewed: 2026-09-11. The on-page examples are illustrative. They are not a performance benchmark.

  • Paid isolation, then local intensity and feather
  • Original subject RGB in the download
  • Intensity 0–100 with a local mix
  • Feather 0–64 px at the matte edge
  • No intensity or feather on the isolate request
  • Preview and PNG from the same composite

Questions

Blur Photo Background FAQ

Clear answers about isolation, local sliders, credits, ChatGPT, and how this differs from removing or replacing a background.

Does the blur slider use more credits?

No. Isolation costs 3 credits. Intensity, feather, preview, and download cost 0 credits and stay in the browser.

Is this the same as Background Remover?

No. Background Remover deletes the scene and returns transparency. This tool keeps the original scene, softens it, and keeps the subject from the uploaded pixels.

Can ChatGPT blur a photo background?

ChatGPT can discuss camera technique or generate a new image from a prompt. It does not isolate your existing photograph and then let you slide blur on the original pixels. This page is built for that job.

Will hair, fur, or a product handle stay sharp?

The subject core stays the original RGB. Isolation can still miss a thin strand, a whisker, or the gap inside a handle. Inspect the preview. Raising intensity will not repair a bad matte.

Do I need a wide-aperture lens?

No. In camera, blur comes from aperture, focal length, and distance. This tool is a software mix after the photo already exists. It will not reproduce optical bokeh discs from a fast prime.
