Owned tool exports

Compare the Spec, Not a Promise

These are owned stills processed by this page's compositor. The US 2 × 2 in case keeps the original background. The UK 35 × 45 mm case replaces the background with light gray through the image service. The Canada 50 × 70 mm case exports a multi-copy sheet. Every file is 300 DPI and never retouched.

Export

US 2 × 2 in, original background

A phone portrait cropped to a 600 × 600 pixel square on a white background, head aligned to the 50–69 percent head-height guide. No image service call, 0 credits, file stays in the browser.

Export

UK 35 × 45 mm, isolated background

A 413 × 531 pixel export with the subject isolated and placed on light gray, then aligned to the UK 64–76 percent crown-to-chin guide. This is the 3-credit path and the face pixels are copied, not regenerated.

Verified coverage

What This Passport Photo Maker Does

Three jobs, each explicit: hold the exact spec, guide the crop without touching the face, and hand you a file a print lab can accept.

Exact country specs

Each preset carries the photo size in millimetres, the pixel size at 300 DPI, a head-height range, the allowed background colours, the issuing authority, and the date the figure was checked. Switching a spec re-crops to the new aspect ratio without stretching the subject.

Guide the crop, keep the face

Zoom and pan the photo behind a head guide. The compositor draws the selected region into the exact output size. It does not smooth skin, reshape features, or generate a new face, so the export stays a faithful copy of the input.

Replace the background, optionally

Keep your own background for free, or isolate the subject through the image service for 3 credits and drop it on white, off-white, or light gray. Isolation returns the same pixels with transparency; the colour is composited locally.

Honest limits

What This Tool Will Not Do

To make a passport photo for a chosen country, this page crops one uploaded portrait to the exact millimetre size at 300 DPI, aligns the head to the authority's head-height range, and exports a single photo plus a printable sheet. The crop is deterministic: the compositor maps the selected source region into the output canvas without retouching skin, whitening teeth, reshaping features, or generating a new face, which is required because most authorities reject a photo that changes your appearance. Background replacement is the only image-service step. It returns the subject with transparency so nothing about the face is regenerated, and the background colour is filled locally. Specs are summarised from the issuing authority and shown with a last-checked date, but this tool cannot guarantee that an agency accepts a photo, and requirements can change between publication and your submission. Verify against the authority before you submit.

This is not a face beautifier, a smile editor, or an AI headshot generator. Those jobs change identity or expression and belong on different pages. It does not auto-detect a face, auto-rotate, or auto-crop for you, because a wrong automatic crop is worse than a manual one for a document photo. It does not print, mail, or submit to any agency, and it does not keep your file beyond the optional paid isolation task.

Use one JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 5 MB, between 256 and 4,096 pixels per side, and no more than 16 megapixels. A source that is too small still exports, but the file is upscaled and the print may look soft; the panel warns you when that happens. Background isolation costs 3 credits, and a failed isolation is refunded automatically.

Choose the right method

Banana Pro AI vs online passport tools vs a photo studio

The right choice depends on whether you need a pixel-exact spec you can verify, a guaranteed acceptance promise, or a human behind a counter. Here is the honest trade-off.

Banana Pro AI browser maker

Best for
You want a named country spec, a visible head guide, an exact 300 DPI export, and a print sheet, and you want to keep your background for free
Control
Local crop and print, spec and source shown with a last-checked date, 3 credits only when the background is isolated
Tradeoff
No acceptance guarantee, no face retouching, and manual alignment instead of automatic face detection

Subscription passport apps

Best for
You want an automatic crop and a guarantee badge and do not mind an account, a subscription, or a print order
Control
Their crop engine and their checklist, with the exact spec usually hidden behind the app
Tradeoff
Recurring billing, uploads of your face, and a guarantee that still depends on the authority's decision

Photo studio or booth

Best for
You want a person to take the photo, choose the crop, and print copies on the spot, and you are willing to travel
Control
A human operator and calibrated lighting, usually with the same national spec
Tradeoff
Travel and cost per set, opening hours, and a slower path for a single digital file

Practical workflow

How to Make a Passport Photo

The workbench is the product. Follow the four steps and download only when the guide and the spec both match.

  1. 01

    Upload one portrait

Load a JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 5 MB. A recent, front-facing, evenly lit photo works best. Nothing is uploaded until you request background isolation.

  2. 02

    Pick the country and document

Choose the spec. The panel shows the millimetre size, the 300 DPI pixel size, the head-height guide, the allowed background, the issuing authority, and the last-checked date.

  3. 03

    Align the head guide

Zoom and pan so the crown and chin sit between the two guide lines. Leave the face in focus and centred. The export uses exactly this framing.

  4. 04

    Choose a background and download

Keep your background for free, or isolate it for 3 credits and pick a colour. Download the exact-size photo or a multi-copy print sheet.

Questions

Passport Photo Maker FAQ

Clear answers about specs, sources, credits, background replacement, and what this tool will not do.

Does this guarantee my passport photo is accepted?

No. This tool produces a file that matches a country's published size and head-height range, but the deciding agency makes the final call and requirements can change. Always verify against the issuing authority before you submit.

Which countries are supported?

The tool ships named specs for the United States, United Kingdom, Schengen area, Canada, Australia, China, and India, each with its size, pixel dimensions, head-height guide, and issuing-authority source. Pick the document that matches your application.

How much does it cost?

Cropping and downloading with your original background is free and runs in the browser. Replacing the background through the image service costs 3 credits per photo, and a failed attempt is refunded automatically.

Does it edit my face?

No. The compositor only crops, scales, and composites the pixels you uploaded. Background isolation returns the same pixels with transparency. It never smooths skin, reshapes features, changes expression, or generates a new face, because authorities reject altered appearance.

Can I print the photo at home or at a kiosk?

Yes. Download the print sheet, which tiles the exact photo on a 4 × 6 inch or A4 page at 300 DPI with thin cut guides, then print it on photo paper at 100 percent scale and cut along the guides.

Is my photo uploaded?

Only if you choose to replace the background. Keeping your original background crops and exports entirely in the browser. When you isolate the background, the photo is stored for that task and its result is kept in My Creations so you can download it again.

Tool specifications

File, Price, and Privacy Specs

The workbench accepts one JPG, PNG, or WebP image up to 5 MB. Each side must be between 256 and 4,096 pixels, and the image must stay within 16 megapixels. Cropping and download with your original background are free. Replacing the background is the paid step, at 3 credits, and a failed attempt is refunded.

The result is a document photo you assemble yourself, not a government submission or an acceptance guarantee. By using the tool, you confirm that your file complies with the Terms of Service.

Privacy, Storage, and Deletion

Keeping your original background crops and exports entirely in the browser, so the file is never uploaded. Background isolation does upload the photo for that task. Review the Privacy Policy for how uploaded photos and task results are stored and deleted.

Do not use this tool with someone else's portrait. You are responsible for having the right to use the photo you upload. See the Privacy Policy before you upload a sensitive portrait.
