Glare on eyeglasses

Flash, ring light, and window reflections that sit on the lens. The preset keeps frames, lens edges, and tint, and matches the eyes to the parts still visible through the glass.

What Causes Glare in Photos

Glare is specular reflection: light from a lamp, window, flash, or the sun bounces off a smooth surface at the same angle it arrived and goes straight into the lens. Understanding the geometry tells you which shots can be fixed in camera and which need editing.

Smooth surfaces act like mirrors

Rough paper scatters light in every direction. Glass, screens, lacquer, and oily skin reflect most of it in one direction, so a small change in camera angle can move the hotspot off the subject entirely.

Plain glass reflects about 4% per surface

Uncoated glass with a refractive index near 1.5 reflects roughly 4% of incoming light at each surface. Against a bright window that is enough to overpower a darker print or screen behind it. Anti-reflective lens coatings reduce this to well under 1%, which is why coated glasses often show a faint green or purple tint instead of a white flare.

Polarizers work best at an angle

Light reflected from glass and water is most strongly polarized near Brewster's angle, about 56° from straight-on for glass and about 53° for water. A circular polarizer can cut much of that glare, but it does little when you shoot straight at the surface or at bare metal, whose reflections are not strongly polarized.

Clipped highlights hold no detail

Once glare pushes pixels to pure white, the file has no record of what sat underneath. Lowering highlights only turns that area grey. Removing it means rebuilding the surface from surrounding context, which is what this tool does inside your mask.

Glare vs Reflection: What Is the Difference?

A reflection is a recognisable mirrored image, such as a window frame or a person, laid over the subject. Glare is the bright, washed-out patch where that reflected light is so strong it hides detail. Most real photos have both: a soft reflection around a clipped glare core. Brush the whole visible area, including the halo, so the rebuilt surface blends into untouched pixels.

How to Avoid Glare When Taking Photos

Editing should be the fallback. These capture habits prevent most glare before it reaches the sensor.

  • Glasses: move the key light higher or farther to the side, around 45° from the face, or ask the subject to tilt the frames slightly down.
  • Framed art and documents: turn off the flash, light the wall evenly from both sides, and shoot from a slight angle or remove the glass.
  • Screens: dim the room lights behind you, raise screen brightness, and take a screenshot when you need exact content.
  • Glossy products: bounce light off a white card or use a large diffuser instead of a bare flash, and rotate the item until the hotspot slides off the label.
  • Windows and water: add a circular polarizer, turn it while watching the reflection, and shoot at an angle rather than straight on.
  • Skin: blot oily areas before a portrait and soften hard sun or flash with shade or a diffuser.

It rebuilds the pixels you paint on one ordinary photo. It does not auto-detect glare, relight the scene, or recover true detail that the glare fully erased.

What it will not claim

It does not recover an eye, a label, or screen text that the glare fully hid. It does not fix glare that covers most of the frame, and model output arrives at 1K before the workbench composites it back to your uploaded size.

What is not allowed

Do not upload passports, IDs, licenses, or legal documents, and do not use an edited photo where rules require an unaltered picture. Many official photo rules, including US passport photos, already require removing glasses. Only edit photos you have the right to modify.

Reconstruction, Not Recovery

The model paints a believable surface inside your mask using the lighting, colour, and texture around it. That works well for small hotspots on smooth materials. It is an estimate where glare hid unique detail, such as the colour of an eye, a line of small text, or a signature on a print.

If a halo remains, widen the mask slightly and run the downloaded file again as a new paid job. If you need an object or person gone rather than a reflection, use Object Remover. If the whole photo is too bright or flat, fix exposure with a relighting tool instead of this page.

Uploads, Tasks, and What We Store

A signed-in run creates a tracked task. You can reopen the result from My Creations after a dropped connection without another charge for that request id. The composite you inspect and download is built in your browser from the original upload and the returned surface.

The current storage backend has no automatic expiry for uploaded or generated image objects. Delete in My Creations soft-deletes the task record from your account history; it does not delete the underlying image object or the provider copy. Review the Privacy Policy before uploading photos of other people or sensitive scenes.
