Placement studies

Three ways to test a tattoo before the appointment

Small changes in scale and angle alter how a design reads on the body. These three studies show a different placement decision in each area.

What is virtual tattoo try-on?

Virtual tattoo try-on puts an existing design onto a body photograph so you can compare placement, scale, and angle before committing to ink. Banana Pro AI's Classic mode is a free, immediate photo overlay with a PNG download. AI mode is an optional 30-credit step that blends the positioned design with the photographed skin and lighting.

Make the placement decision first

Start with the size someone will actually see from a few feet away. Then rotate the design to follow the arm, ankle, or shoulder. If a white paper background follows your line art, adjust the white-removal control; for a colorful or busy background, upload a transparent design instead. Inspect every letter and contour in the final image before sharing it with your tattoo artist.

How to try a tattoo on your photo

You need one body photo and one design file. The free preview stays on this device until you choose AI generation.

  1. 01

    Add the two images

Choose a clear body photo and a PNG, JPEG, or WebP design. A transparent PNG keeps fine edges cleanest. You can also select a design from your own My Creations.

  2. 02

    Place and refine

Drag the design, pinch or use the scale slider, rotate it, and set opacity. Reset returns it to the center. Classic updates instantly and downloads as PNG without generation credits.

  3. 03

    Download or blend

Keep the Classic preview, or explicitly generate an AI result for 30 credits. AI uses your fixed placement as its guide; moving the draft afterward does not alter the finished AI image.

Choose the right workflow

Tattoo simulator vs design generator vs in-studio placement

Choose the workflow by the question you need answered. Banana Pro AI is especially useful when your design already exists and you want an editable photo preview before paying for a skin-aware finish.

Virtual tattoo try-on questions

What photos and design files can I use?

Use a PNG, JPEG, or WebP body photo and a separate design. Each file can be up to 5 MB in this tool. A well-lit photo and a design with transparent edges give the clearest placement preview.

Is the Classic tattoo simulator free?

Yes. Dragging, scaling, rotation, opacity, resetting, and downloading the Classic PNG use zero generation credits. AI blending starts only when you press its Generate button.

What changes in AI mode?

AI mode keeps the placement you approved and asks the image model to blend the tattoo with local lighting and skin texture. It costs 30 credits per 1K result. The rest of the original photo is restored from your uploaded image after generation.

Can I remove a white background from my design?

For black linework on white paper, increase Remove white until the paper disappears while the dark lines remain. Complex color backgrounds need a transparent design file; the tool does not silently purchase a background-removal step.

Why does my old AI result stay still after I move the design?

An AI result is a finished image made from one frozen placement. Later adjustments change the Classic draft only. Generate again if you want AI to blend the new position.

What if an upload or AI run fails?

Check the file type, size, and image integrity, then try the upload again. If an AI task is already running, resume its status check rather than starting a second task. Failed generation follows the site's normal credit return process.
