Real before and after pairs
Each pair starts from an original AI-generated portrait of a fictional adult, not a customer photo, and runs through the same locked brief and model settings the workbench uses. Zoom into the catchlights, the dark outer ring, and the eyelid shadow, because that is where a natural eye color change either holds or breaks.

What changes and what stays
An eye color preview is only useful when the face is still yours. The tool changes iris color and asks the model to leave everything else as close to the source as it can.
The locked brief keeps pupils black, round, and the same size. It also keeps the eye whites, the limbal ring, eyelid shadows, lashes, and every catchlight. Eyes are not enlarged, brightened, or turned toward the camera.
Pick blue, green, hazel, gray, amber, or brown. Matched mode gives both eyes the same color. Heterochromia mode gives each eye its own color, assigned by the side of the image it appears on.
Closed eyes, deep side profiles, and tiny faces in group shots leave little iris to work with. Sunglasses and mirrored lenses are not supported, so the workbench asks you to confirm that both irises are visible before every run.
Practical workflow
The best source is a sharp, evenly lit portrait where both irises are clearly visible and at least the size of a fingernail on screen. Front-facing or slightly angled faces give this AI eye color changer the most real iris to recolor.

Choose the right preview
The right route depends on whether you want a finished photo of your own face, a live camera filter, or a manual edit you control pixel by pixel. Names below describe product classes rather than specific brands.
Choosing a shade
Iris color comes mostly from how much melanin sits in the front layer of the iris. Lots of melanin reads brown. Less reads hazel or green. Very little reads blue or gray. Use that as a starting point, then judge the preview against your skin tone and hair.
Blue eyes have little melanin in the front layer of the iris. On darker brows and hair the result reads bold; on lighter coloring it reads soft. Check that the blue still has a darker outer ring, or it can look flat.
Cleveland Clinic puts green at about 2% of people worldwide, which is why a green preview gets noticed. It usually looks most believable with warm or olive skin and a slightly muted, olive-leaning shade.
Hazel mixes a golden-brown center with green toward the edge, so it is the gentlest change from brown eyes. Pick it when you want a subtle preview that friends might not notice at first glance.
Gray is a cool, low-saturation light iris. It pairs well with black-and-white or cool-toned edits, but in warm indoor light it can drift toward blue, so compare the result against the source lighting.
Amber is a solid golden-copper tone without the green of hazel. It reads warm and striking in daylight portraits and is a common pick for the second eye in a heterochromia preview.
Cleveland Clinic notes that more than half of the world's population has brown eyes. Use brown to warm up light eyes in a photo, or as one side of a heterochromia look that still feels grounded.

Hard inputs
We ran the same locked brief on deliberately difficult photos so this page can say where the eye color changer holds up and where it fails. If your photo matches a weak case, pick a different source instead of paying for the same run twice.
Clear prescription lenses worked in our test: the iris behind each lens changed while frames and glare stayed. Mirrored sunglasses failed: instead of leaving the lenses alone, the model painted green irises onto the reflections. Take sunglasses off before uploading.
A slight three-quarter turn is fine. In our near side-profile test only one eye was partly visible, it picked up a faint tint, and heterochromia mode had no second eye to recolor. Use a front-facing photo for two colors.
This mode creates complete heterochromia, one color per eye, on a single front-facing face. It does not draw partial or central heterochromia rings, and it is not reliable on group photos.
Night shots, heavy motion blur, squinting, and faces that are tiny in the frame give the model almost no iris texture. Crop closer before uploading instead of running the same weak photo again.
The AI eye color changer generates a new image from your photo plus a fixed, server-owned brief. It is a cosmetic visual preview. It does not measure your real iris, predict how a colored contact lens will look on your eye, or say anything about eye health. Because the whole image is regenerated, very small details can still shift, especially stray hairs, lash tips, and fine skin texture.
Keep the original file. If the pupils changed size, the eye shape moved, or the face no longer looks like the person in the source, discard the result and try a sharper, front-facing photo with both eyes open and in focus. If eye color changes in real life, including a new difference between the two eyes, the American Academy of Ophthalmology advises seeing an ophthalmologist, not running another preview.
Upload only portraits you own or have permission to edit, and never use the tool to misrepresent someone else. Signed-in eye color tasks and results can appear in My Creations so a task can be recovered after a temporary connection problem instead of being paid for twice.
The current storage backend has no automatic expiry for uploaded or generated image objects. Delete in My Creations soft-deletes the task record from account history; it does not delete the underlying image object or provider copy. Analytics events record only the tool, mode, and color choice, never the photo. Review the Privacy Policy before uploading a face photo.

Yes. Heterochromia mode lets you pick two different colors. The first color goes to the eye on the left side of the image and the second to the eye on the right side, which is the person's own right and left eye. It works best on one front-facing face.
Clear glasses worked in our test because the iris is visible through the lens. Sunglasses and mirrored lenses do not: in testing the model drew irises onto the lens reflections instead of leaving them alone. The workbench asks you to confirm both irises are visible, so use a photo without sunglasses.
