What you are removing
A shadow is not a filter and not missing data. It is real light that did not reach part of the scene, so a photo can record it, and an edit can reduce it. Knowing which shadow you have tells you which preset to choose.
When an object blocks a lamp, the sun, or a flash, it throws its own shape onto whatever is behind or below it. A hard light far away makes a sharp-edged shadow; a soft light close by makes a soft one. Product and flat-lay photos usually have a cast shadow from the main light.
Window light or a bare flash crossing a tabletop creates a bright side and a dark band with a visible edge. Unlike a soft gradient, that edge is what makes the photo look uneven, and it is what the directional preset targets while leaving each object's own soft core shadow in place.
A hard shadow on a face darkens skin without erasing it: pores, freckles, and features are still recorded, just under-exposed. Lifting that shadow to match the lit side of the face is different from smoothing skin, and this page keeps every feature and expression.
Changing a shadow does not mean changing the scene. This page never swaps the background, never relights the whole photo, and never adds a new shadow — so the setting, colours, and objects you photographed stay exactly where they were.

Honest scope
It reduces or removes one existing shadow in one photo. It does not add shadows, relight the scene, change the background, or recover detail that was never recorded.

It does not add a shadow to a product, change the overall light direction, or swap the background. It cannot fully recover detail that a shadow pushed to pure black, and it will not redraw a logo, label, or face that the shadow covered. Large shadows that cover most of the frame are better solved by a reshoot.
